SAN PELLEGRINO
Italians are the largest consumers of mineral water in the world and, in this market, in Italy, Sanpellegrino is the leader. As such, in the context of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Sanpellegrino was bent on sustaining a project that met the increasing demand for information on the value of mineral water in terms of health and as a symbol of quality Made in Italy.
The creation of the Mineral Waters Atlas was born of a scientific project thanks to Umberto Solimene, Professor of Medical Therapy and Spa Medicine at the University of Milan, and Mario Pappagallo, physician and journalist of the Corriere della Sera.
The volume involved the efforts of specialised doctors, geologists, environmental engineers, and paediatricians and described mineral water as a “nutraceutical” because it unites the primary function of hydration with properties that benefit the organism; the book also reveals the difference between mineral waters, teaching how to recognise the precious elements it contains and the benefits they offer the human body; the reader follows the flow of water from the spring to the bottle and to our dining tables, gaining a better understanding of the processes that ensure purity and safety and the progress made by the industry in terms of ecosustainability, an essential factor in a sector that finds its very raison d’être in conservation of nature and of water especially.
The project is aimed at communities of doctors, the media and, through them, public opinion concerned about the origins of mineral water, which waters are better suited to different needs, how to read the label, and hydrate oneself correctly.
The Atlas was presented in 2008 under several and varied circumstances, so as to ensure the visibility required for the rapid attainment, both consolidated and on a large scale, of its primary objective: to create a mineral water culture.
